Maintenance Automation Specialist

SUMMARY: The Automation Specialists purpose is to assist in the running and installation of automation projects under the guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the timely development and implementation of automation projects
  • Develop panel layouts, wiring, component specifications, and interfacing HMI systems
  • Develop hardware and equipment solutions utilizing LEAN techniques
  • Train operators, supervisors, managers, and maintenance personnel in the areas of machine operation, troubleshooting, and safety
  • Support project management activities related to vendor involvement and in house manufacturing
  • Support all project activities from initial order through first production run including post-launch to troubleshoot any start up items
  • Create and generate documentations for projects, including, but not limited to drawings, schematics, and layouts
  • Develop and execute plans for upgrades to process equipment
  • Support weekly update meetings to review status of project and discuss issues
  • Program robotics, PLC, and HMI
  • Develop PM’s and recommended spare part inventory
  • Act as primary resource to ensure automation runs during productions

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

  • Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
  • Supervises: None

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted for the expected levels of education and experience required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of a craft apprenticeship or equivalent production maintenance experience with emphases on electrical
  • 4+ years of manufacturing experience with emphasis in hydraulic, pneumatic and industrial skill sets as well as PLC, robotics and HMI’s
  • Must pass ATEK Functional Job Analysis and Pre- Employment Drug Screen for Maintenance position

Preferred:

  • Two year Industrial Electricians Degree
  • 2 years experience in Industrial Fabrication and Design
  • 5 years experience in PLC programming and HMI’s
  • Robotic programming experience
  • Extensive experience reading blueprints
  • Electrical maintenance experience( 24 volt DC to 460 volt 3 phase)
  • Prior experience ordering parts
  • Project management experience

Communication Skills:

  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language

System Skills:

  • Experience with Maintenance Computer Software (Rockwell)

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent exposure to foundry like environment (high heat, dust, etc.)
  • Some jobs require an employee to work outdoor in unfavorable climate
  • May be asked to travel with in or out of the continental United States
